This review is from: Regions of the Heart: The Triumph and Tragedy of Alison Hargreaves (Hardcover)
I can't claim an interest in rock climbing or mountaineering but I do recall the story of Alison Hargreaves and the debate that followed her death. Namely, was she right to lead such a daring life being the mother of two young children?
Regions of the Heart does an excellent job in answering the question. What shines through is Alison Hargreaves' singular passion for climbing. It motivated all her major decisions in life - how else can you explain climbing one of the Alp's more difficult peaks while pregnant?
This book is no hagiography and is likely to make uncomfortable reading for those close to her. But it provides a befitting tribute to an extraordinary character, a recognition that A.H. sought so hard to achieve during her lifetime.
