When GTA 3 came out on the ps2 it brought out the genre of the open world game giving you the options to explore liberty city at the time it was fantastic as there was nothing really like it, but its 2010 and that genre has been done to death there are a list of games which have ripped off the same concept and now its getting boring, if you want to explore the open world turn off your console and walk out the front door. Alot of the old school games had a simple level/boss model and that worked, in todays market the games give you so much option to do the fluff stuff when sometimes all you want to do is just play the game aka mafia 2 and progress through the missions which have an engaging story line, and with cut scenes you can actually be bothered to watch instead of skipping (gta take note...)
Mafia 2 is a quality game please ignore the reviews whinging "this isn't like gta blah blah.." they don' understand the underlining concept behind this game its not trying to be gta which has become lost in its own hype and has a host of copy cat games of significant poor quality fluffing up a poor story with pointless side missions taking up hours of wasted time.
This title has depth it, is a grown up game, it has amazing graphics and a great story line coupled with a linear mission level which is really engaging it was like watching the movie goodfellas put joining in.. The only gripe was the game was far too short. But games like this and Heavy Rain for example really take advantage of great graphics, gameplay and an engaging story line.
Overall 9/10 Great game but there are minor tweets for improvement for the next game.
