Is this Dream Theater ?,
This review is from: When Dream & Day Unite (Audio CD)
Well if you have heard some fothe later stuff (Images & Words or Awake) an d then you come to listen to this you won't believe your ears. It is horrible mixed, sounding very primitive and not look Dream Theater at all, but I am asured it is really them and I suppose they have to admit to it. Don't get me wrong music writing skill is still there and some of the tracks are brilliant (afterlife / killing hand), but the recording is so bad that it just spoils what there is. A perfect comparrison is to listen to Yste Jam on this recording and then catch it on their live video (Images and Words) and just hear the difference. The worst thing about this album is the vocals. Now I know this is not fair to say as he is a talented singer and I'm sure in the right band (with a better mix! ) would sound a lot better, but it just doesn't work in the Dream Theater make up. especially if you compare him to the amazing vocals of James LaBrie who joined DT from Images and Words onwards. I'm glad I brought the CD as I feel Any DT fan would, but I don't play it much. The CD doesn't do the band any justice in the recording quality.
