This review is from: Helter Skelter- Director's Cut (DVD)
To get the full story of the Manson 'family' you do need to see the 1976 version of Helter Skelter AND this one, the 2004 version. It is not a remake of the 1976 version in any respect and both movies give different perspectives of the whole saga. Both movies are equally disturbing, the 2004 being more graphic and the 1976 more tense and uncomfortable. You will not get the full picture if you dont see both, in any order.
The characterizations of both Charles Manson and Susan Atkins (Sadie) are much more compelling in the 1976 version whereas it is the portrayal of Linda Kasabian that is at the fore in this movie. The police authorities investigations are more focused in the 1976 where as both the Tate and La Bianca murders are actually dramatised in this more contemporary offering.
You may feel like you have become a 'Manson Family' expert after watching these movies, you certainly get a very good all round picture and analysis of truly, disturbing, unimaginable events.
