More than just a singer songwriter,
This review is from: Break-A-Way: The Songs Of Jackie DeShannon 1961-1967 (Audio CD)
Singer songwriters are not my main thing but Jackie de Shannon did as many covers as original songs.
Beginning as a Hot Boppin' Girl under the name of Jackie Dee she never had a sizeable hit until later in the 60s - first a Burt Bacharach song then with a song she was a third writer of-Put your hand in the hand.
Prior to that she touched the lower end of the Hot 100 with what is my favorite song of her-You won't forget me.
She would be the first to acknowledge the British made her a star when the Searchers recorded 3 of her songs.
More or less at the same time American groups like the Byrds discovered her through the Searchers connection in 1965
This CD contains 26 of her songs made by others plus one of her own demos
