Not as good as the first volume, even though it is really the remainder of the original story.
By the end I had become quite offended by the horrible caricatures of the black slaves' speech and equally so in the constant reinforcement of the concept of slavery as an honourable condition! But maybe this was Cooper 's idea of satirising the South's attitude (I doubt it though). One must remember that this is a book of its own age and try to understand it in that light.
But I feel that the author was becoming bored himself by the end - the narrative ends in a rush, almost as if he was trying to close it off to meet his publishers deadline!
