5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious - I could watch it again and again!, 29 Mar 2006

This review is from: Mike Bassett - England Manager [DVD] [2001] (DVD)
This is a fantastic film. It is done in an original style - sort of like a documentary. The film follows the new England Manager, Mike Bassett, around during the build up to and the actual World Cup. He faces a disastrous beginning to the World Cup campaign and ends up struggling emotionally with being the England Manager. However, he eventually pulls through which gives more license for the film to lighten up and it develops into a must-see crude comedy.
Definitely one to buy - I loved it!!!

Yes so true in all of what you say. Knowing a few lower league players who tell me what goes on -indeed one of them stared in it as an extra-it says so much about English football. Not just a parody. Supporting Chester, a lower league club, driven out of the football league by a bent chairman who was deemed fit and proper by the FA I can see so much in this film that is true of the FA today still. The ex chairman has since been prosecuted for beating up a policeman, with his son.
Loosely-and unfairly, as i like him-i believe the film was based on Graham Talyor's reign. Ricky Tomlinson is superb, as are all the cast. My friend, the good looking footballer in the background, said nothing but looked the part. Must see and to watch before watching any England game.
