This review is from: Sony MDREX21 Closed In-Ear Extra Bass Headphones - Black (Electronics)
I was a happy owner of MDRXB20EX until they stopped working after 1.5 years of heavy use. I was advised by the sales person at Sony Centre, model MDRXB20EX was discontinued and Sony MDREX21 was a direct successor. So I bought it. Not from Sony Centre but half the price from Amazon :)
It is always frustrating when the next model is worse than its predecessor and unfortunately Sony MDREX21 gives exactly this feeling. Flat wires are slightly thinner; the sound is a downgrade too. The base is still just as strong, but not just as clear and there is a noticeable drop in mid and high frequency range. Not only its less audible, it also sounds a little bit muffed when leveled up by EQ.
Overall its not a bad choice at all for £16 but doesn't match the discontinued model.

Hi, did you ever find a suitable replacement to the MDR XB20's. They were great and I'm down to my last pair. Thanks.

Cannot agree more - the discontinued model was the best ever, lasted 4 years. Usually, earphones last 6 months. Shame they stopped producing MDRXB20EX.

You may want to try "Klipsch Image S4i". They are the ones I bought after these were discontinued and are really good. They are for an iPhone but there is an Android version and of course they still work with other devices.
