Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Billed as the World's slimmest camera in its class, the BenQ G1 is a neat little compact with a fast, bright f/1.8 lens and a swivelling 3 inch rear screen. It has a 14 megapixel sensor and the lens provides an equivalent range of 24-110mm; a reasonable zoom. It also offers a continuous shooting mode of 6 frames per second to catch that action shot and allows the user to shoot in full HD video. It also has an interesting range of shooting modes which, among other things, allow for low-light shooting and snapping panoramic views.
It is small and light in the hand and, although minimalist in design and a little dated looking, is well finished and feels quite solid with the grip areas having a rubberised finish which affords confidence in handling. Where plastic has been used it is of good quality and the swivel screen has a metal finish.
I found it straightforward and pleasing to use and got good low light results. I particularly liked the clarity of the swivel screen and was very happy with the test photos I took. I liked the colours and the clarity of the snaps. The video was also very good. It does not offer shooting in RAW.
It is well priced on Amazon and a good value buy considering the excellent range of technical specifications on offer. The only reason it fell short of full 5 stars was due to its slower response than other cameras I have. I would, however, recommend it as a serious point and shoot compact!
