A good little camera,

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Being a youtuber and requiring the use of a good camera is essential for me, so something as simple to use as the Flip range is quite appealing. I've never owned a Flip camera before as I require a few more features from a camera than the Flip allows, but when this arrived from Amazon I thought I'd give it a go.
The camera itself is small, thin and light and has a nice matte black finish. The camera can fit into a normal sized pocket or bag without taking up too much space, ready for you to shoot video at a moments notice. The lens is located on the front, with an integrated speaker/microphone, there is also a standard tripod mount on the bottom of the camera and a USB connection that flips out from the top of the camera to connect to a PC or Mac. On the rear of the camera you will find the view screen so that you can see what you are shooting or to view back any recorded videos. There are also the very simple controls for operating the camera and navigating through the menus.
Function wise the camera couldn't be easier to use. Once switched on all you have to do is press the red record button on the back to begin shooting, what could be easier! There are 2 arrow buttons to move through your recorded videos, a play button to play the selected video and a plus and minus button for volume control. There is also a trash button to delete any unwanted videos. A lot of cameras today can be quite difficult and complex to use with a myriad of options, but this is something that you can't accuse the Flip of having. Almost anyone could pick up and use this camera. I've noticed on the TV recently that they've given Flip cameras to children in Haiti to film daily life and now I can see why. Simplicity is a big selling point of this camera and if this is what you're after and just a quick point and shoot camera then I can't recommend it enough.
There are a few downsides to the Flip. Firstly, there is no zoom on the camera so if there is something a short distance away you won't be able to zoom in on it. The second downside is the fact that the camera has no auto focus and cannot be used for up close shots as a result. As a rule the camera can capture anything within a range beyond arms length. For someone like me who does a lot of reviews/unboxings on youTube this is where the camera falls down as it just simply will not focus on anything up close.
Extracting the videos from the camera is easy enough. Simply connect to a PC or Mac via USB and you can just drag and drop the video files onto your desktop or import into video editing software. The Flip does come with it's own built in software which you may or may not want to use, but as a Mac user I prefer to use iMovie.
Overal then I have given this camera 4 stars as it really is a good point and shoot camera which is very easy to use, simplistic controls and produces good quality HD video files. It's well designed and small and compact enough to be carried around or will fit in a bag without taking up much space. It loses a star for the fact that it doesn't have a zoom feature and that it lacks the ability to shoot video within about a metre, so would be no good for up close work.
