This review is from: Answering Only to God: Faith and Freedom in Twenty-First-Century Iran (Hardcover)
There is a lot of material in this book, especially in terms of interviews with Iranian clerics unsympathetic to the Islamic Republic, but there is nothing that is really new. The pace, breathless style (which hypes up the authors, described wrongly by the publishers as the only American journalists to live in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution) becomes wearing after a while.
The book is a joint effort by a husband and wife, and the chapters written by her are much more accessible. Elaine Sciolino's Persian Mirrors is more readable, if slightly less up to date.
