5.0 out of 5 stars excellent 1st dslr, 16 Nov 2010
By
This review is from: Sony DSLRA290L Alpha Digital SLR Camera with SAL1855 Lens (14.2MP 2.5 inch LCD) (Electronics)
after returning my 1st Sony a290 as it developed a fault, i have now used its replacement for over 12 months. the camera is an ideal starter DSLR, with easy to understand graphics on screen. which helps using it out off auto. i have learned a lot using this camera and am very pleased with it. it is a bit smaller than the bigger top notch cameras so easier to hold in smaller hands. even my grandchildren like to use it. it does not have a video function but i knew that when i purchased it and i personally do not need it.

its was faulty, did it not strike you to get a replacement FREE OF CHARGE - Like these things do happen, and your not singled out.

it can happen to me or anyone, however Why oh! Why, did you not just ask for a new replacement, com'on... there is a much bigger depth of field the DSLR and than on a Compact shooter, ALSO THE DSLR is cabable off razor sharpe pin point accuracy snaps, when the compact is much less quality, poorer Optics - poorer CCD, the image chip in DSLR IS MASSIVE and is virtually noise FREE ( NO SPECS OR DOTS IN LOW LIGHT) BUT IN COMPACT LOW LIGHT IS ALWAY A PROBLEM without a flash. I hope you ask for a replacement... you Can buy the canon EOS 1000D For 300 half price heere on Amazon, best camera for the money.. with optical image stalization, live view too.

yes it did strike me that these things happen but its a b.....y nuisance when you want to use something and it goes wrong. i wanted a refund and i got a refund, i bought one else where as i didn't want to wait for replacement. i don't like the feel of the canon in my hand. but you no doubt will have something to say about that too.

I understand your thread - you have replaced your Sony at a different location and have previously tried out a Canon but didn't like the feel, and you were answering David's response (1 above) who suggested a Canon 1000D to you, I did read all the replies unlike the rude person and wish you well with your replacement.! Merry Xmas and a Happy new year to all on Amazon a truly amazing site

great sensible comments, it's amazing how many experts there are out there who are offended by someone holding a different viewpoint, well for any reading this I can tell you the photographer is more important than the camera in most everyday cases...oh and by the way I am an expert...
