If your child is struggling at school or with homework this is the book for you,
This review is from: Could Do Better...: How Parents Can Help Their Children Succeed at School (Paperback)
First I must admit that I know Noel Janis-Norton well - I used to work for her at The New Learning Centre in London for many years. I can testify that she is a gifted teacher who helps many parents facilitate their children's learning, no matter how desperate the situation seems at first.
This book contains all parents need to know in order to improve their children's reading and listening comprehension, develop their love for reading and their ability to produce their best written work. But the most important part, in my opinion, is giving parents practical strategies to manage homework, revision and school projects without resorting to endless nagging and shouting. The emphasis is on calm, consistent routines and positive feedback, and correcting children's mistakes through praise rather than criticism. Noel takes a look at children as a whole and shows how parents can stretch them without being pushy, so that children feel proud of both their effort and achievement. And because I personally use these ideas and practical skills with the families I work with, I know how effective they are!
