UD back on form,
This review is from: Bang For The Buck (Audio CD)
OK, so alot of backpackers/underground hip-hop fans might not consider Ugly Duckling the most original thing on the block but they're not out to make music different for the sake of being different. UD are about making old-school style hip-hop that makes you feel good. For me personally this is their best effort since Journey To Anywhere, which is a classic. The best thing I can say about this album is that it really reflects the fun and energy in their live shows. The production by Young Einstein is great as always and even if you arn't a fan of these guys you've got to admire the DJs supreme loop finding skills!
The stand out tracks are "Smack", which takes a playful swipe at jiggy rappers and the whole bling-rap thing, which is clouding everyones judgement about what hip-hop music is all about these days. "Shoot Your Shot" with People Under the Stairs, "Andy Vs Dizzy" and "Einstein's on Stage", which is the third part of an ongoing tribute to the trios DJ...
Having said all that Bang For the Buck still won't touch Journey to Anywhere but I'm definitely glad to hear the guys back on form after Taste the Secret, which was fun but too much of an in-joke for me!
