This review is from: How to be Gorgeous: Wear It Your Way and Feel Like a Goddess Every Day (Hardcover)
While I love the concept of this book - 10 different, capsule 'looks' - I didn't really enjoy reading it that much. The vast majority of the tips and information contained in the book I'd read or seen elsewhere. As a clothes lover, I do read a lot of personal style/fashion books, so maybe this was just one too many, and could explain why I found it all so basic.
The main flaw with it, I would say, is that it doesn't contain enough photos of the different looks, so it lacks that feeling of visual luxury, artistry and imagination that I associate with good-quality style guides. Clothes, shoes and accessories (no matter what 'look' they are making up) are exciting, and they should be duly shown off and celebrated in all their glory.
I didn't get anything out of the make-up/hair pages either, but that is, again, probably a personal thing - I'd rather have a separate book entirely devoted to hair and make-up, as opposed to a few tacked-on instructions.
I also own 'Who do you want to be today?' by Trinny and Susannah, published two years before this book, which again focuses on specific 'looks' in fashion, which I recommend for being much more fun and visually much more satisfying.
