Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Bose ® Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System (Electronics)
Finally took the plunge and bought the Bose Companion 5 because of good reviews, and really wanted
to hear my classical music collection brought to life.
Not that easy to set up (Windows 7 failed to recognize it at first), but I followed the instructions carefully (twice),
and finally sound was produced, but not the quality I had expected. ( and I was careful to place main unit and the two
speakers as set out in the manual.)
High notes are tinny sounding, and the base produces an annoying echoing sound,( and why, oh why, is the base control knob
at the back, I suspect Bose are more interested in how their Companion 5 looks and don't want a control knob on the front)
I have a huge classical music collection, mp3, flac, ape and DVD audio & video, and the Companion 5 doesn't come
up to my expectations playing any of these formats, which is why I've titled this review " A Disappointment".
Maybe I expected too much, but my much lower priced computer speakers (and I have a wide variety) seem, to my ear,
to produce as good sound as the Companion 5, some actually better, especially in the treble range.

Make sure your equaliser is turned off/ default, and any offer non-default sound settings are turned off too. That will make a Bose speaker sound odd.
