A really good book,
This review is from: Modern Life Skills (Paperback)
This is a must for anyone wanting to make positive changes in their life. If you ever feel unsatisfied with your life, give it a read you never know it might help!
I have both personal and professional experience of mental heath problems and in reading this book I recognised a similar passion for promoting positive choices, taking responsibility and learning to live a healthy lifestyle. I loved the way the book was written in easy to manage chunks making it simpler to use as a reference book in the future, which I will be doing frequently. There were lots of occasions when I found myself realising that a particular piece of information or technique would be beneficial for different patients who I am currently involved with and I will be sharing this with them over the next few weeks. The book has helped me focus on more specific goals with my patients, which is great considering the team I work for is changing to focus on shorter term engagement and helping patients to build on their own life skills.
One thing I realised I would have found beneficial whilst reading this book, would be examples of putting the skills into practise. An example helps me to strengthen my understanding.
At the weekend I was able to experience the power of positive thinking. I suggested to my 6 year old son that we went to the park. He said he would like to go on his bike without stabilizers. He never been interested in bikes and found it difficult to ride with stabilizers and we had tried this several weeks earlier on my suggestion and he hadn't managed to go any distance even with me holding his saddle. However he was insistent that he could do it. So I put on his protective gear and off we went. As soon as we got to a straight bit of path he got on his bike and rode off. Five days later he is still riding and hasn't fallen off once!
This book reinforced my gratitude for what I have been blessed with. I hope other readers can reap the similar benefits.
