This review is from: BioShock Infinite (PS3) (Video Game)
I came into BioShock Infinite really wanting to have this huge world which I can explore, (don't get me wrong the areas are big) but I was expecting it to be a little more like the 2011 trailer. It seemed more atmospheric with a bit more interaction.
Even though they have had a few years to keep improving it with all the delays, I really did prefer how it looked in the original trailer and gameplay. There was even this little emotional scene where Elizabeth (the faithful companion who will be helping you along the journey) finds a dying horse amongst one of the streets of Columbia and tries helping it by tearing open a portal to a different dimension leading them to this completely different world and then funnily taking them to France in the 1980's where they were nearly hit by a bus. The trailer felt more atmospheric too, in a way it made me feel more intimidated than the one where Elizabeth is about to be hung by one of the very religious bishops you will encounter in the game itself and then having Booker come down and save her while using the skylines.
In the game itself you are quite limited to where you can go. There are lots of collectibles and things to pick up along the way such as audio-graphs which tell you a little bit about what's happened during the story, there are vigors to find which give you new powers accessing the ways to toy with your enemy or just blow them to strawberry jam. There are weapons which are kind of interesting including the skyhook which is useful for getting around and beating the crap out of your enemies before finishing them off by ringing their neck or either crushing their heads with the rotating hook.
The enemies are challenging to defeat and are very intimidating ESPECIALLY the clockwork George Washington with the minigun and the boys of silence which don't show up very often-- actually you pretty much only encounter them once through the game. The enemies can sometimes overwhelm you at times and can creep up behind you as well. Just wait 'til you try 1999 mode.
All-in-all it's a fairly alright game with a nice range of guns and a creative way to use your vigors. The story is pretty good but I just wish they added those little parts from the old trailers.
4.3/5 - Nice selection of powers and weapons with challenging enemies and bosses but needs those little details which improve it a little more and add to the immersion.
