Concept Better than Reality,
This review is from: Shadow Of The Vampire [DVD] (DVD)
As a concept, the film is great; in practise, it leaves something to be desired.
While it creates an intriguing look at the filming of 'Nosferatu' with its exceptional twist, while the characters come across well, Orlok's actual vampiric status ends up feeling weak. While we believe HE believes he is a vampire, he rarely ever demonstrates any actual vampire powers that would make him a danger to those around him; looking back, it would be equally plausible for him to be a delusional man that merely thinks he's a vampire if it wasn't for the fact that he was destroyed by the sun.
Characterisation was superb, don't get me wrong, but I just felt that we had little real evidence that Orlock was anything more than a very odd man.
