Good for impressing at diner parties but not much else.,
This review is from: I Think, Therefore I Am: All the Philosophy You Need to Know (Hardcover)
This book is obviously aimed at the complete novice and the style of writing suits the cause well. However if your looking for a book from which you can actually learn some serious philosophy I would suggest buying something else.
This book is very much a "pub knowledge" book in that it comprises of small interesting facts as opposed to explanations and introductions to philosophical theories. The blurb on the back of the book further proves my point as it states - "Quips, quotes and conundrums to help you sound knowledgeable at diner parties".
don't get me wrong this book is competently written and well presented but I feel it is a bit ambiguous as to what it is going to provide the reader.
So if you just want some intellectual snippets to use at the pub and impress your friends than you cant go wrong with this book.
But if you are actually interested in learning about Philosophy then I would strongly suggest buying something else.
