.... but chiefly entertaining. The author's wry approach to his subject, indeed to his own expertise, is spot on. Why are some pictures more valuable than others? Well, it depends on such things as what colour predominates (red turns the market on), whether there are flowers (and if so which), cricket bats or the right frame. The glossary, towards the end, is hilarious. There are some nice anecdotes. But there is a lot of experience of the art world embedded here. Even if fine art is not normally your thing, do try this.
