2.0 out of 5 stars Old men noodling..., 29 Jun 2010

This review is from: Mojo (Audio CD)
I love Tom Petty, but have never liked any of the stuff that sounds made up in the studio (Billy The Kid, half of 'Let Me Up' etc). There are 4 or 5 quite good songs on here, but no great ones. The bulk of it is over-long with a dire lack of melody. Almost any one track is ok on it's own, because they're a great band, but after 5 in a row you want to chew your own foot off. I hate to say it and I never thought I would, but it's.... boring. Even Echo had a good few redeeming features and The Last DJ was great, but this is a real disappointment.

Samson, I have every album TP has ever made, and this is right up there amongst the best. I'm no fan of the blues, but blues or not, this is a terrific album. If this is 'old men noodling', then may they noodle like this until they drop!

Sorry - disagree. Play it alongside The Last DJ. One is great songs, great melodies, one is dull old blues rehashing. I have every album he's ever made too, but this one's tosh.
