5.0 out of 5 stars THE reunion Live album!, 14 Oct. 2013
This review is from: Perfect Strangers Live [2CDs + DVD Set] (Audio CD)
Purple fans have been waiting for so long for a good release from the Perfect Strangers tour-the tour that brought the famous MKII back together. The only official recordings from that tour available so far, were the "KNEBWORTH 85" and "Paris 85" both of which were a let-down both in terms of sound quality and performance.
This new release captures dP at one of their first reunion concert in sydney in 1984, and if some (then) new tracks are still very fresh for both the band and the audience, they nevertheless fit perfectly well between the 70's classics.
The performance is excellent, Gillan is on fire even if a bit raspy sometimes; Blackmore & Lord are soloing like mad (especially Blackmore in a brilliant creative "chaotique" mood).

But the absolute bonus for me is the sound of the rhythm section that has been brought to the front, reminding me of the heights of Made In japan in terms of dynamics and groove. Paice's drumming is absolutely stunning and his bass drum playing is a delight to hear. The energy of the band is brilliantly captured on tape ; it's raw, it's dangerous,it's exciting and it's all LIVE!
This might not have been the best concert from that tour, but the energy and the mix definitly make up for it!

I can't really review the dvd as I'm not a fan of concerts on dvd, but I did watch the documentary and it features some great footage and interviews from all members (except Blackmore), and also some previously unreleased jamming in the studio (short but sweet!).

This is a real treat for all Purple fans!Enjoy!

I just happened to see DP on the PS tour so I hope this cd/dvd is as good as I remember the band being at that time. The setlist was incredible, the new tracks from PS blended in perfectly (excuse the pun) with the classics & it was one of the best concert experiences I've had & I've had a few. Jon Lord (RIP) was incredible & even Ritchie seemed to be really into it. The highlight had to be Smoke On The Water, Ian had everyone on their feet singing the refrain countless times. I'm sure DP are still good live today, but it would be very hard to match the instrumental prowess & live intensity of that Mk 2 line up in '85. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the ageless Ian Paice, probably one of the most under rated drummers around, his was one of the finest examples of no flash just rock solid drumming that I have ever had the pleasure to witness!

How did you manage to get your order so quick? I got an email the saying that the dvd had been delayed and that I would be refunded my postage since I paid for release day delivery. I will now have to wait until the end of the month for my copy of this dvd.

I'm still waiting for my cd/dvd set to be dispatched and they say they have it in stock, I ordered it about 2 months ago so not sure what is taking Amazon so long to send it.

I bought it in a "physical" store. Lately amazon has had that kind of delay problem, and I didn't want to wait for this particular cd/dvd.

Mine arrived this morning :) really delighted. Watched the dvd and its a great couple of hours watching a band in their prime before the ego's reared their ugly heads again. I do have one question though. Does anyone have any idea why Ian Gillan keeps disappearing back stage between songs? This is something he still does today. Does he have a woman, some booze or a fix back there ;)

Maybe Gillan doesn't want to play cheerleader/act like a clown (ie: Jagger) and draw attention away from the.....music!

Please pay attention as I've read that the Lp is missing half of the song Child in Time!
