This review is from: Scandinavian Europe (Lonely Planet Multi Country Guides) (Paperback)
i have just returned from Stockholm where i put this book to good use. I have used lonely planet guides in the past, and although they do provide travellers with a vague perspective of their destination, i often find them to be geared towards travellers on a medium budget rather than those on a tighter one, and suggested eateries etc are often a tad expensive. this scandinavian Europe book will provide foundational information of your destination from which to build on, but as you might expect with a book that attempts to act as a travel guide for such a vast area, there are a lot of gaps that you should be prepared to fill in yourself. I also had the Lonely Planet pocket guide to stockholm, which was a much more convienient size and provided a more comprehensive guide to the city.
A good way to get an idea of how reliable these guides are is to look at their guide to a destination you know well. I currently reside in edinburgh and feel i have a fair knowledge of the city, but when i look at the bars, restaurants and clubs suggested by the lonely planet guide i am left far from impressed.
