This review is from: The Pleasure Seekers (Mass Market Paperback)
While this book IS hot and very readable, there was one major problem with it. The history of France had been so messed around with that it was more or less unrecognisable. In reality, Louis-Phillipe was the last king of France. However, he had no daughter called Marie-Amelie; that was his wife's name. In addition, he came immediately BEFORE the Second Republic and not after it. The monarch who came after the Second Republic (and overthrew it) was Louis-Napoleon. He was never styled king but EMPEROR and took the name Napoleon III when ruling. He did not have a daughter.
In addition, mentioning 'vapour trails' in the nineteenth century just made me wince. What was leaving them? Seagulls?
I've studied this period, so I'm probably more likely to knitpick. If the odd historical inaccuracy doesn't bother you, and you like hot romance, I'd recommend this to you as a good read. Otherwise, steer clear.
