5.0 out of 5 stars It's like Muse... only more so!, 8 Jun. 2006
I'm sure that you, like I, did more than just raise an eyebrow when you first heard Supermassive Black Hole. Despite it's cool name, it wasn't *Muse* enough for me. Groovy pop, more like. Never fear though, Chris Wolstenholme is here. The bassist, Muse's most prized asset, goes into overdrive as Muse release an album that sounds like a band honing their *Absolution* sound rather than savaging it.

It starts off with Take a Bow, which sounds like a new and improved re-working of Apocalypse Please, but with even more musical maturity and awareness. Then comes this album's masterpiece. Starlight positive sparkles (lame pun... I know) in a similar way that Hysteria and Time is Running Out did earlier and Map of the Problematique - track 4 - runs on adrenaline and an apocalyptic bassline. Unfortunately, Bellamy included a ballad ignorant to the failure of his previous efforts (exc. Unintended). Fortunately it's short. All this song does is point out their major flaw, the song-writing. As the album passes the half-way mark we see TSP reincarnated as Exo-Politics, Assassin roar louder than Dead Star, and City of Delusions is a grander, bolder Butterflies...

However, the beauty is saved until last. People's views are mixed on Muse's album closers - I personally think that they're awful - but this is Muse's finest moment, nicely concluding Muse's finest hour. Not as much a revolution as a Revelation.
