This review is from: The Shadow Of The Crescent Moon (Hardcover)
Possibly one of the most stunning novels I have ever read. In this imaginary small town called Mir Ali in the Tribal areas of Pakistan's Khyber PakhtunKhwa province, three brothers embark on one of the most harrowing days that they have experienced. What is most interesting is that the entire novel is held up by strong female characters, they're individual struggles have been beautifully articulated. Furthermore, Fatima Bhutto has tackled some incredibly powerful characters, ranging from the American Army and the Pakistan military to the Taliban and the elite of Pakistan who are implicit in the oppression of Pakistan's people at large. Pakistanis can read this book and relate to many of the characters and those who are not Pakistani will be able to see the human side to this novel and feel for the every day trials and tribulations that have been so well described Each chapter leads you to want to read the next and the book comes together in the most beautiful way.
A definite must read.
