I read this in one night, it was so gripping. Sullivan has carved out her own niche, she is so removed from the mainstream tropes of SF and that's a good thing. If you're looking for warring empires and flaming hulks of spaceships, you probably won't enjoy this.
However, if you're looking for a wonderful ride through mindbending / expanding landscapes and some truly icky and spooky set-pieces, buy this. Parts of it reminded me of Dick's Valis trilogy, it has that same kind of unsettling and simultaneously compelling imagery.
Without a doubt, Sullivan is one of the most important writers in current SF.
