This is one of Kaurismäki's best. If you don't like understated films that require thought, you'll be bored by the slow pace. If you do, you're in for a treat. Kaurismäki uses pitch black humour and a very deadpan, stark, Scandinavian style to show that the kindness of strangers and the little acts of compassion in life are enough to keep us going even in the worst situations, as the protagonist rebuilds his life into something better than the one he doesn't even remember losing.
