Kind of Blue,
This review is from: Kind Of Blue (Audio CD)
Just browsing through the Miles Davis products the other day, I was amazed to see that the average rating for "Kind of Blue" was only 4.5 stars. Intrigued as to what kind of person does not regard this album as truly exceptional, I scanned the reviews. Those that did not give the album five stars fell broadly into two categories. The first consisted of people who had no jazz records and, having read the reviews, thought this classic would be a good one to start a collection with only to discover that, oops, they don't like jazz.
The second group appeared to be afficianados with a slightly sniffy attitude who view the album as jazz for people who don't really like jazz. There is some truth in that as it is by far the most accesible Miles album to non jazz fans and was my starting point in an apppreciation of jazz and of Miles in particular.
The point of this review is to ask, beseech and implore the reader who does not own this album to ignore these reviews and BUY Kind of Blue immediately. Your life will not be same again.

Afraid I'm one of the few who seriously struggle with Miles seminal album. Several years have passed since my last failed endeavour to appreciate A Kind of Blue. Your impassioned review has persuaded me to revisit

That is a fair point, so what you are saying is that this is a 5 star album if you delet the ratings of jazz haters and jazz snobs? Joking aside, it is a class album, probably the most famous jazz album of all time.

Hi James, I read your review of the CD which has appeared within the reviews for the Colombia SACD release. Amazon have a habit of conflating all the reviews for the same recording be it on the multitude of releases on different formats - CD, SACD, DVD-Audio or Vinyl etc. Some people are only commenting on the quality of the particular release on the particular format that they have purchased. Hence one reason why not everyone may give it the 5 star reviews you think it deserves. E.G. The Colombia SACD is inferior to the Sony SACD release and only gets 3 Stars from me. Yes superlative jazz but poorly mastered/mixed for SACD.
Personally I think this is highly misleading of Amazon who are only interested in shifting stock so they deliberately mislead the not-so-savvy customers with reviews that were written for a different format/release of the actual product. Yes they do state which product review it comes from but also know a certain percentage of people will miss that small piece of information.
By all means beseech and implore the reader but we also need to make sure they purchase the best available release.

Probably the best Jazz Album ever released! (Say it aloud in the voice of the guy who does the Carslberg advert - btw which is definitely NOT the best beer in the World!)

There are also a number of reviews whose product didn't arrive, or was scratched etc. These reviewers should be leaving seller feedback but, by leaving 1 star reviews, they are dragging down the average.
