One of De Palmas best. an underrated classic thriller full of trademark De Palma camera moves and an excellent score. One of Travolta's best pre Pulp Fiction renaissance performances

Havent seen the bluray yet, but concur that this has some great homage moments including the films previously mentioned but the nearest (in most of the tone)for me is Gene Hackman in Coppola' The Conversation.
Whilst this, Dressed to Kill and Body Double are decidedlly lurid, they have some connection (I would guess) to Argento as well.
Lithgow, Travolta and Nancy Allen have not been better. It is a classic case of style nearly outdoing the content. The ending is still one of the bleakest outside a horror movie of similar era.
A couple of the plot movements are a little slipshod but overall much better than the Amazon placing on the all time best lists suggest.
