I have never had a camera like this before - only using a 'point and shoot' - so was quite intimidated when I got it out of the box and saw all the controls. I need not have worried. It needed a memory card before I could begin to get used to it so that was the first job. Once that was done, I looked at the book, which is fairly helpful and I was able to set the date, time, etc. quite easily. Once I found that there was a 'smart' setting so I could take pictures and gradually get used to the camera's different 'feel' before trying out its many features, I felt less worried and was delighted with my first results. It does take time to get used to the camera if you have not been used to 'clever' cameras before, but I am taking it with me on a weekend away this weekend and really looking forward to having time to play with it, experiment and see what results. (Also, my sons, who are very good with cameras, can help me if I get stuck). I love that there is the ability to take pictures rapidly one after another, as my little point/click wouldn't do that, and also to get closer to an item, as I love flower closeups and have not been able to get these well focused in the past but now I can. It connects easily to my pc via our wireless system, or will connect with a usb lead. I don't need to connect to Facebook as I rarely use that, but it will if necessary. I haven't found the need to buy any additional lenses but there is the option of doing that later when I am more familiar with a wider range of functions - its reassuring to know that possibilities for this exist. Nor have I tried connecting the camera to a phone although I understand this is possible (if you have the right sort of phone, which I don't as my phone just makes phone calls - no internet, no camera....).
The camera is not a great deal bigger or heavier than my point/click and the improvement in the quality of the pictures more than compensates for the increase in size. Overall, I am thrilled with camera and looking forward to using it even more.
