From A Lowestoft Resident....,
This review is from: Them or Us (Hater Trilogy 3) (Paperback)
Have enjoyed this immensely - have only read it as I live and work in Lowestoft and it has had some considerable local press coverage. I found the story interesting - but was unaware that it was part three of a trilogy - and whilst I am sure it will make a brilliant end to a set of three didn't work quite so well on it's own...
As for the setting - I recognised some of Lowestoft from the narrative and could place it in my mind's eye but by no means all. It didn't quite gel for me. Maybe the mention of a few of the more obvious town landmarks (apart from the court and the police station) might have helped - the destruction maybe of the Marina Theatre by the mob or the Town Hall being used as a flop house rather than an anonymous guest house would have been interesting touches... On the other hand the descriptions of Southwold definitely touched a nerve. A lovely place if the resident toffs were removed I'd say..
Another friend who has read the book commented that it was "Just another Saturday night in Lowestoft then..." It was so much more than that (thank heaven) but I wish I had known it was part three before I read it.
I will read this author again...
