4.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD START, 18 May 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dark Cloud (PS2) (Video Game)
Let me start by saying this is not as good as it's sequel - Dark Chronicle, which frankly a soul sucking epic of a game ( it stole 75 hrs of my life)
This is a tactical RPG, you play Toan a person of great destiny in a small village thats attacked by the recently risen Dark Genie, You have to collect Altla and rebuild the villages you travel into.

Game play goes as this - You work your way through the numerous levels of the dungeon - normally est 15+, collecting parts to complete your village in the Georama setting.(more on that later).

Now the levels of each dungeon are the same in graphics ONLY!!. - The game engine creates a new layout every single time you enter that level and the levels you've just completed. So no level layout is the same!

The georama is a top view layout of the whole of your village/next village. You creat and make the house's with the items you collect in the dungeons and then have to work out where they go, what they need etc, special requests on the people you talk there.
The first level/ Village took just under 5hrs to 100% - bare in mind there are roughly 6-8 villages + a secret dungeon with 100 levels once completed. this game is huge!.

You rank up your weapons by attaching various gems/upgrades and watching your weapon rank up as you kill enemies. Now the combat system is a little repeditive and sometimes results in you taking a gamble and frankly having more engergy than your target as you hit each other.

To be honest this is a perfect little game that is user friendly, has many challenges, It is extremely hard to start as your character Toan is easily killed and you can spend 1-2 hrs back and forth to the shop/dungeon. Though after you rank up your weapon and character a few times it does get easier.
Also to be honest there is a lot of back and forth from the shops to rank up your weapons.
Dont play Sphinx cursed mummy as thats a completley different style of game to this its a platformer not a RPG. As mentioned the sequel is a brilliant brilliant game, but this is not a bad game and there are many bad RPG's out there that cost more and dont have half the playabilty of this one.
