This review is from: The Modern Text-Book Of Astrology (Paperback)
I was brought up (astrologically) on this book some 20+ years ago and it was 'old' then. It may be a technically excellent book but astrology has developed so much since MH wrote this book and, whilst the basics may remain unchanged, the way in which teaching astrology has developed leaves this book years behind. We have far deeper insights now than were understood 50 years ago and this book obviously cannot include these. This applies particularly as far as psychological insights are concerned.
There are many excellent books which have come on the market since this book was written but I suppose the fact that the book is still available must say something for it.

Angeln says:
More delusional progressivism. Truth is not temporally situated, nor a matter of fashion. As to the 'insights' you claim, many of these are based on neo-feminist pseudo-psychology. Most will turn away from this book for no better reason than it says things they don't want to hear, which is their problem or, more likely, one of their many.

Margaret Hone also wrote: 'Astrology through the ages was once pictorially represented as a river, curving along in its broad sweeps. At each curve ... stood an irate little man, saying, "Stop this, it is nonsense!" But the river increasingly rolled on, ever getting fuller and wider. It now seems to have reached vast proportions and is in danger unless in the future, it is fed by tributaries from healthy sources and controlled by banks as in the past. Its modern necessity is the "banking" given by sensible, well informed, well practised students, who will exert the control necessary to stop "woolliness" and vague repetition of unproved statements.....'

The fact that the book IS available more than fifty years after it was first published says it is a classic of its genre. One wonders if the same will be said of the 'up-to-date' books Mr/Ms Llewellyn admires? 'Angelm' sums up the value of this book somewhat more tersesly than I would have done, but I certainly agree with their conviction that truth does not change; an 'up-to-date' truth is a self-contradictory paradox!

R. Llewellyn says:
I am not aware that I have ever reviewed this book, or even seen, let alone read it.

Then I apologise for linking your name to the review by 'R Llewellyn'. Presumably you are a different individual, but if so I am somewhat puzzled as to why you should respond to a comment about a review you did not write?!

R. Llewellyn says:
Hi! I am an astrologer of many years standing and reasoably well known in the world of astrology - well, I was but am a little long in the tooth now. If jhe book in question is by Margaret Hone than it was a book I was initiated into astrology with. At the time I thought it was a little out of date for modern chart interpretation and if I'd done a review of the book 35 years ago then that is what I woiuld have said. I've not seen the book since then and certainly wouold not have chosen to write a review now. Hope that answers your query?
