Color and Light,
This review is from: Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter (James Gurney Art) (Paperback)
If you are serious about becoming a truly skilled artist, you have to own this book. I wish I had owned this book since I began drawing and painting in my youth. This book truly explains in great detail all of the important rules of light that you need to understand to be able to produce truly stunning art work. Do not be put off too much by the imagery contained within. And of course we all know never to judge a book by its cover. The creator of this book "James Gurney" was the artist for the "Dinotopia" books which explains why much of the imagery the book features is of a fantasy nature. But it really doesn't matter if you are not interested in fantasy art. The imagery does vary and it is only there as a means to explain the rules of light and colour. Personally I find the varying subject matter makes for a much more interesting book. This book probably will not suit those of you that are just looking for pretty pictures although the pictures in the book are exactly that, this book is more of a text book but I cannot state how important I think it is for any artist to own it.It is a wealth of valuable knowledge and everything is explained in a clear and precise way. So I say again to all of you that want to be truly great this is a book you should have in your collection.
