The Good, The Bad & The Dragons,
This review is from: Dreamworks Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury - Two All New Adventures [DVD] (DVD)Many reviewers seem disappointed by this dvd because they were expecting a sequel to the exceptional Dreamworks film 'How To Train Your Dragon'. Unfortunately the pricing of this product gives fuel to this fire as it is rather expensive for only two short animations.
'The Gift of The Night Fury' is the first short on this dvd and at 22 minutes long it is good for an additional dragon fix. The animation is superb and all our favourite dragons, including the loveable Toothless, are back for our enjoyment. Unfortunately the pacing of this short seems a little strange as it ends abruptly just as you begin to enjoy the story but as a seasonal tie-in it fairs well against the original film.
'The Book of Dragons' is 18 minutes long and unfortunately seems more of a filler used to bulk out the dvd. Inserting segments from the original film into a strange 2D simplistic animation felt a little repetitive although younger children may be amused by the silly slapstick humour of Bork The Viking. Although it is interesting to hear about a few new types of dragon the 2D style left a lot to be desired in comparison to the lovely first short. Any fan of 'How To Train Your Dragon' will enjoy the first short immensely but I was a little disappointed by the second animation. I just hope that Dreamworks decide to pursue a full-length sequel for the original film and give us another glimpse of Toothless and his dragon friends without Bork the Viking making an appearance.
