This review is from: Backlash [DVD] (DVD)A typical load of nonsense from the very overrated Sturges who only directed one good film 'Bad day at black rock.'
Not even the very, very hot Donna Reed or competent Widmark could salvage it.
Boring, ridiculous plot. I am wondering whether the five star reviewers have ever seen any decent 1950s westerns ?
egs of Sturges direction ha ha. Donna Reed gets slapped around the face really hard and no mark or colouration appears on her face. In every scene including on the trail she look like she has just stepped out of the make up dept. Her clother are crisply pressed and spotless.
I own at least 40 classic westerns far superior to this which is going to my local charity shop for some other unlucky person to sit through it.

Thank god someone else hates this movie like I do. I can't see how anyone could possibly like it. Widmark overacts as per usual and the plot is so crazy I had a headache
trying to figure what the hell was going on.
One of the poorest westerns I ever saw. I'm surprised at Sturges after such brilliant
movies like ESCAPE FROM FORT BRAVO , GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL and MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.

"Widmark overacts as per usual" - oh, dear. Oh, dear, oh, dear. Widmark was one of cinema's best character actors, equally excellent as a villain and a hero.

You gave Bad Day at Black Rock 2 stars, and thats a good film? In any case its better than a good film, and I wouldn't trust you to review anything objectively anyway.

The issue about Donna Reed appearing glamorous on the trail is an old chestnut in westerns.
As to Sturges ability: Bad Day @ Black Rock is in my opinion as god a "western" as I've seen.
But I'll bear your other remarks in mind
