This review is from: The Analects (Dover Thrift) (Paperback)William Soothill's translation of "The Analects" goes further than just give an English version of the ancient Chinese text. He includes a 'Dramatis Personae' at the beginning, as well as an explanation of how Chinese names can take on different forms whilst still referring to the same person. He has indexed the book carefully so that references to key people and places can be readily found, and the notes he includes with the translation enable to reader to be able to take "The Analects" in context with the rest of Chinese history of that period.
This edition of "The Analects" is presented with a gloss cover and sturdy pages, making it all the more reasonable for its price.
