Fantastic DVD, Avergae Film,
This review is from: Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace [DVD] (DVD)
The DVD for this film is outstanding, The packaginga and DVD menu's are consistant with the other 4, soon to be 5 films in the series.
The double disk set is crammed with features: Documentaries, Trailers, and a full length commentary to accompany the film.
Usually I'm not one to watch the now common second disk which comes with almost every film these days, however The Phantom menace bonus disk is completed to such a high standard even the most casual film watcher will feel compelled to sit down for and hour or two and simply explore.
Where the DVD is near perfection, the actual film is unfortuntely not. Over the years it has recived mixed reviews from harsh critics and Biased Star wars fans. My opinion is that as a stand alone film the Phantom Menace is simply average, at times its outstanding and breathtaking but at others simply boring and slow. It really helps if you have seen the orginal trilogy from the 70's and 80's as there are countless referances to locations and characters from it.
Unmissable if you're a star wars fan or DVD enthusiast.
For the casual viewer, who dosn't know a lightsaber from a death star you may want to look elsewhere.
