If you want an iconic book to read...,
This review is from: Managing Britannia: Culture and Management in Modern Britain (Hardcover)
This is one of the best books I have read in any context, not just within the arts. When I was doing my B.A. I was fortunate enough to discover this book early on; most of my degree was therefore based on the writing of these two contemporary and satirical writers. It is generally accepted that Tony Blair, whether rightly or wrongly, turned Great Britain into Great Britian plc. This book discusses the where with all concerning this notion. It is hard to argue against most of the book, it seems to say what most of us thought, or should have thought, at the time of Blair's reign. For anyone discussing or studying the arts in any sort of context, historical or contemorary, this book is essential. I now teach and "Managing Britannia" gets mentioned every year as an essential read. This really is an excellent resource.
