Got into the Scorpions late with their 80's and 90's heyday, except for Wind of Change obviously. Had a green 7" single with tracks off Lovedrive. Anyway, these 3 are from '75,'76, and'77, when UliJon Roth was lead guitarist. The tracks herein are all a bit formulaic, Scorpions are the Status Quo of metal, discuss, but listening to them took me right back to when this was dangerous music, and was just before punk exploded. Scorpions are still here, where's punk gone? These are the three albums that took them from German legends through to European superstars then on to world domination via Japan. Little Klaus sings his socks off. The seeds of greatness are already in place and despite looking like a a gang of serial killers on "Virgin Killer", and then a gay glam band on "Taken by Force", the music has the foundation for the world domination that was to come. Treat yourself to these albums to find out what all the fuss was about. You will not be disappointed. The tracks sound like they were recorded yesterday - Dieter Dierks was weaving his magic in the studio. The Cd's come in cardboard replica sleeves, all in a sturdy outer box. For the money this is daylight robbery.

I've been a Scorpions fan since 1978. I think they lost something when Uli left, but these men really rock, and have rocked for years. The albums never did them justice. I first saw them on the Animal Magnetism tour and they were my favourite band for many years, so much so that they were also my sons' favourite band. He saw them when he was ten and they were still rocking then (in 2001). The period these albums were released were far and away the best recording times for one of my favourite bands. How can anyone not be impressed by a song such as 'catch your train' !! i remember taking this album to a 'rocking pub' and the 'DJ' was blown away with the tremendous guitars that he hadnt come across before that night. If you are a true rock fan this collection is for you.

Formulaic? Uli Roth-era is Scorpions at the peak of their creativity. The albums from Fly to the Rainbow to Taken by Force are incomparable. I lost interest after Animal Magnetism when they fell into standard rock ballads and power chords. Give me 'In trance', 'Yellow Raven' and Pictured Life anyday.

I disagree with the "formulaic" comment. Are you sure you're not referring to Bon Jovi albums? I like hundreds of bands but pound for pound the Scorpions are my favourite for all the fantastic stuff they've done over one hell of a length of time.

Mr G Holford says:
Well Bald man mikey- it seems you have very little in encouragement for the best band that ever came out of germany- Klaus was as good 30 yrs after he sung 'IN TRANCE' and to call the band anything to do with the politically correct gay scene that tries its heart out to amend for the way population growth hasn't been addressed is absoultely = depraved! how the hell you can call a band gay when they have 'been' through the best girls in every country they've resided- is quite beyond me; : I wish i'd had the chance to marry at least one of the girls these men have known- I married a beauty and i love her but in all honesty my heart has always been with my youth and the music i loved- i will always love my wife but will always love my music- go and eduacte yourself- this band have never been 'GAY'!
