Good case, but room for improvement,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 PC Case - Black/Pearl (Accessory)
This case is well made with a good set of features. There's enough space to work with, and the finished build looks considerably neater and is easier to work with than my old P180B.
The main areas of potential improvement are:
1. Fix the top HD bay. With the feet to allow the bay cage to slide in and out fitted, the top bay is unusable as the feet protrude into the bay meaning you can't get the HD in place. Fractal admitted this issue when I contacted support, and offered to send me out replacement feet that would allow me to use the top bay. I haven't received these yet.
2. HD vibration isolation. I find that my HDs (I have five installed currently) cause significant vibration, and in turn noise. This is particularly bad when the bottom HD slot is in use. I've had to spend quite some time moving HDs about, trying to find a set-up where this noise is minimised. With my old Antec P180B, this was not an issue despite a similar mounting mechanism, though it secured the HDs through screws in the side rather than the bottom, maybe that made the difference?
3. The case is not as quiet as I hoped. Don't get me wrong, it's not noisy by any means, but coming from an Antec P180B with 4 x 120 mm fans, I hoped that the 3 x 140 mm fans (I added an extra one, and no it's not noisy) running at lower RPM would be an improvement. The thing is, it's not the fans that create most of the noise, but the HDs vibrating as mentioned above, and the GFX card and CPU cooler fans - I hoped the case would be able to muffle these more than it does.
