The sound on this is simply amazing. It's such a joy to hear Elvis at his peak in this sort of quality.
Like some of the other reviewers here, I've spent money on 4 different generations of Sony/BMG/FTD CD's of this material. In sound terms, they started out mediocre and worked their way down to pedestrian.
On this CD, Elvis sounds like he did when these tracks were first released - with all the raw energy and atmosphere that have since gone missing. If reviewer Calsam can't hear the difference on his `£50,000 worth of all digital Meridian' hi-fi, it could be for one of two reasons: either he's been sold a pup by his hi-fi salesman or he works for Sony BMG.
Which might explain why he's unjustly trashed the artwork. Personally, I like the understated artwork, including the dark symbolism of the cover picture. Plus the recording/release dates inside are well researched and informative.
OK, the Inverse Label is probably a small operation and they can't run to flash designers. But the main point about this whole series is the sound. And, sound-wise. these three volumes, which have been such a well-kept secret, now stand as the document to Elvis Presley's 50's work.
