4.0 out of 5 stars Very handy gadget, 20 Jan. 2013

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: PortaPow Micro USB Charging Adapter / Converter for Samsung Galaxy Tab or Note (Accessory)
I purchased this Samsung Galaxy Tab / Note to Micro USB high speed charger converter/connector/adapter for my daughters Galaxy note 10.1 (N8010). Its a very handy gadget to have as its saves my daughter lugging around the charger for this tablet as it is quite hefty/bulky. Also saved me buying a second charger for her to use at her mums.

NB: Not sure about the high speed charging as it takes longer too charge than the stock charger from a mains supply using and even long from USB.

I would have given it 5 stars if it was high speed.

Hope this helps.

PortaPow says:
This is just an adaptor so if the USB socket you're connecting to outputs less power then charging will be slower, and you'll also need a good quality micro usb cable.

Try using this adaptor with a good micro usb cable and a 2A charger to get the fastest speed.

Yeap as per usual always the customer using the wrong equipment.....bla bla in fact i use an official Samsung wall socket charger see below plus a quality cable as i also have an 7000 mAh charger (iEP387 7000mAh Portable Charger) which melts cheap cables and your device does not charge any quicker than the 2000 mAh charger.

Technical Specifications;
Input:100-240V~50-60Hz, 0.35A
Output:5.0V=== 2.0A

Mr Grimm says:
What would be the time difference in charging between the original Samsung cable and socket compared with using this product with their recommended cable? Using the original my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 takes around 5 hours to charge from near to dead flat.

CROCIATO-LAW says:
I have a similar adapter, just a different brand and it halves the time and some, down to a little over 2 hours.
use this search criteria:

Micro USB Female to 30pin Adapter Dock

and choose the one that is just asmal almost square like item in back or white (ebest sell them on here) and in a nutshell I have had no issues with any charger plugs or USB sockets on computers, I can even use a potable power storage device and connect the usb to that and still charge it faster than a Samsung.......

So "yep ....wrong equipment" is rubbish.

It is the adaptor not the cable or standard charger that makes a difference, it accepts a higher charging rate, simple as that.

Also the type sold by ebest is the only one I have found (adaptor OR cable) that lets you charge whilst in use. As in sharge while playimg games if its your kid, this will help extend the life of the device between full "off" charges for you on a long car or train journey.

Hope this helps someone, as opposed to slating a review.............

Do not use this cable with the Note 10.1. It it wired differently to the Galaxy Tab, your Note could break if you continue to use leads that aren't Note specific!

Hiya all..... I see that there have been a few comments.....sorry for not replying sooner but testing takes a while and I can't make comments until I have fully tested it.

Mr Grimm........ It all depends on what you have connected to this product. I measured charge time and it took using my original note 10.1 charger (5v 2amp) and it's about 5hrs give or take 10 minutes. Using this adapter I purchased from PortaPow connected it to my note 10.1 and I used my note 2 charger which is exactly the same output (5v 2amp) and an official Samsung product, It took just under 7 hours. So it's not actually high speed..... it would never be faster in any environment as you can only user a max DC output of 5v 2000mh. Adding connecter in the path of the current to your device, the current would be impeded (resistance in the line) and amperes (amps) would be lost due to factors such as 'continuity' (connections in the cable) and the use of cheap wires that are nickel plated tin if you're lucky or just tin.

I have no issues using this adaptor which my daughter has done for 8 months now and there is no damage to the device or battery. Just one thing you cannot charge and play.

I believe the 30 pin plug configuration for the Samsung tab 2 (7 & 10.1) and note 10.1 are the same as they are both manufactured by Samsung. If a charger is product specific don't use it on another deceive unless you have knowledge and know it's not for heavy duty batteries. (NOT SURE>>>>DON'T USE IT)

Only ever use chargers with the correct output as some chargers I have seen on amazon state they are for note's and tab's and other devices just because they have a usb socket. DO NOT USE THEM. If you look closely at the image it shows a 5.1v and or 2.1amp output or even higher and may have `ipad' stamped on them. If you're not sure by an official one as it's going to cost you more if you damage your device and battery. For the note 10.1 5v 2000mh (2A) is max but you can use 5v 1000mh, 5v, 700mh and even 5v 500mh but the lower the amps (mh) the slower the charge and using this adapter would be even slower.

Phew ........... Hope this helps everyone.
