This review is from: MADDEN NFL 09 (PS2) (Video Game)
Previous Madden game I had was 2005, so I thought this would be a big enough jump. There certainly have been improvements. Running was practically impossible on 2005. I played franchise with several different teams, and ended up near the bottom or at the bottom in Rushing with ALL of them (and that includes teams who had good runners) - here, you can actually get decent yards on the ground.
The superstar mode is a good idea. The one problem I have is that you can't select your own play as a QB (though you can just audible) - also you get computer auto time outs (the user should be in charge of time outs) - but overall it's fun to play as an individual.
The franchise set up is still good, and if looks as though they've solved the play-off problems of 2005. In that they mess up the seeding of teams in the play-offs, and you can end up playing the wrong team cause the game thinks that better record = better seed. Here (though it still ranks by record) you do get the correct team.
off season is better, cause you get a free agent period before the draft (2005 just had one after), so you can fill with free agency then draft around what's left (which is what most teams do as I understand)
overall - game play is good, and the different modes provide different challenges for the user.
