Aesthetically perfect !,
This review is from: Ladyhawke [DVD] (DVD)
During the last couple of decades we have been inundated with movies and T.V. series set in a "medieval" environment, with ample doses of "magic".So ,in a way,we can say that this is one that "paved" this way.
But in what style !
The plot is based on a brilliant idea.A couple of lovers who,due to a curse placed upon them by an evil bishop.can never really be together,as she turns into a hawk during the day and he into a wolf during the night ! Yet their love for each other never wavers !
He(Rutger Hauer) is the perfect male specimen a great ,as well as noble, fighter, she(the stunningly beautiful Michelle Pfeiffer) is the perrfect female, tender and sweet as they come. And the bishop(an excellent John Wood)is the -infatuated-evil incarnate. We dismiss,of course, the terribly miscast Matthew Broderick, who was the new, albeit short lived,"big name"at the time.
We do not simply watch a movie,we "sink"into the story. Its sheer beauty and power are joys rare to find. And we enjoy the climactic magnificent ending.
A truly ageless gem.One for the annals.
