We are constantly being reminded of the black music covers by Pat Boone.
Yet here is a blatant attempt to derail the then beginning career of Jan & Arnie (later Jan & Dean) by an already established name in the black music field-Billy Ward & the Dominoes who were more opportunist than ever Boone was when their previous covers of Stardust and Deep Purple were from white songwriters as was the B side of this single of Jennie Lee-Music Maestro Please.
And it wasn't beneath black vocal groups to put out a cover-this being the Silhouettes'Get A Job and the Mills Brothers went on to a hit career into the 70s
Think about it-blacks covered whites as much as whites covered blacks
Not that it bothers me as I love cover versions
