Coffee table cookbook that won't inspire carnivores,

The first impression is good. It's a gloriously presented book with lush photographs of each dish. Some of the dishes look wonderful even as I looked through the ingredients and decided it was picking fancy ingredients over balanced flavours.
Certainly there was very little to persuade me, as a dedicated meat-eater, that vegetarian recipes can be as appealing. This is particularly disappointing because being married to a vegetarian I know that there are good recipes out there.
What is good about the book are the basics sections - covering making cheese, nut milk, a range of simple sauces, etc - these guides are simple and well-present. The outline of seasonal vegetables, and breakfast menus, and suggestions for getting enough protein are also good. However, this can't make up for the rest of the book having relatively unappealing recipes, and the unforgiveable lack of a desserts section.
If you are a vegetarian and already have multiple basic recipes books, and don't have a sweet tooth, then this may be a good choice, but it's not for me.
