Susan Atkins review,
This review is from: Michael Lee: Back from the Brink (Paperback)
This was a very good book and really gets to grip with the era and the bikes, engines, managers etc. It was an era I grew up with and was a part of, I have wonderul memories of Kings Lynn, Boston, Mildenhall and other tracks, and many dear friends. I also remember Cyril Crane with great affection and the riders of the early Mildenhall team. It was so well written capturing the events and times and bringing memories flooding back.
The only thing I query, was that Michael said/wrote= he didn't regret anything? I find that hard to believe as a lot of people were affected by his actions not least Janet and his children, his parents etc. Could he really be serious?
It would have been better if he could have made some mention of his regret for how he has hurt people! including himself.
I have many regrets from my youth, I to hurt people, I find it strange that he could write that, surely Michael you can't really mean that you have no regrets?
Still, for anyone from that Speedway era, it was a brilliant read.
Thank you to the Author, it was great that so many people contributed honestly and candidly about those times, the struggle for the Managers, the teams, the individuals, everyone, thank you for helping me re live memories of some terrific people, riders and events, that made up such a great part of my life in the late 70's and early 80's.
Also, to Michael, well done for your great achievement, getting back on track in your life, something for your children to see you win, a battle with self-destruction, what a battle! truly back from the brink that most people topple over and are swallowed up and destroyed by.
A Happy Ending- Michael Lee, a great Champion....
